How much activity does my puppy need each day?

Puppy activity can really vary based on the breed and their age. In general, about one to two sessions of five minutes of activity per month of age is good. So a four-month-old puppy could enjoy a 20-minute walk, but it really varies based on their breed and activity level. You definitely want to include other activities beyond just walking.

What are some fun activities to keep my puppy happy?

There's lots of activities to keep your puppy happy. Definitely going for walks is great. Other activities include using snuffle mats as they get older, doing some hiking if they're up for it, and maybe some very supervised swimming if they're puppies. Socializing with dogs that you know are friendly, fully vaccinated, and in a safe space is also great for them.

Where can I safely take my puppy outside to play?

Taking puppies outside to play is a great activity and can really help with their education and mental improvement as they get older. Keeping them in a yard that you know is safe, away from the road, and fenced in is even better. Make sure no unknown, unvaccinated dogs can get into your play space while you're outside.

What activities can I do in my home with my puppy?

In-home activities are great as well. You can use snuffle mats, play hide-and-seek, and work on training and obedience. These are really good indoor activities.

Can I leave my puppy alone with toys to keep them active when I'm not at home?

Keeping puppies active while you're gone can be important to help prevent them from being destructive. Certain toys that they can't chew pieces off of or swallow can be okay for most puppies. Toys like Kong toys or similar materials are often good choices, and they usually have little pockets where you can put treats or kibbles while you're gone.
